Child ADHD Testing in Cheshire

Comprehensive ADHD Assessment for Children & Young People

If your child is experiencing difficulties with focus, organisation, time management, motivation, or emotional regulation, or if you’re wondering if ADHD explains long-standing patterns and challenges, our ADHD testing will help to provide the clarity you are looking for and a plan you can use.

At Springdale Psychology, we provide comprehensive Child ADHD assessments following the guidelines outlined by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and adhering to best clinical practices.

A Neuroaffirmative Approach

We embrace a neuroaffirmative approach at Springdale Psychology. This means that we aim to recognise and respect the neurological diversity associated with ADHD. This approach emphasises the strengths and positive aspects of ADHD, while addressing the challenges and providing appropriate support. We aim to empower young individuals with ADHD to navigate their lives successfully, embracing their unique strengths and abilities.

We value open communication and collaboration. Where appropriate and with full consent, we actively involve individuals and their families in the assessment process, respecting their experiences and perspectives. Our goal is to empower individuals and provide a supportive environment for growth and development.

Assessment Approach for Children:

Initial Consultation

The assessment process begins with an initial consultation, where individuals or their family members meet with our experienced clinicians. During this meeting, we gather detailed information about the individual’s symptoms, medical history, developmental milestones, and current concerns. We will also complete formal screening tools to provide data that supports the decision as to whether a full assessment is required. This allows us to:

– tailor the assessment to the unique needs of the person being assessed, and

– reduces the risk of people paying for and going through an assessment which they may not need.

Diagnostic Interviews

We utilise the most widely recognised diagnostic tools to complete our assessments. For instance, we use the ADHD Child Evaluation (ACE).

This interview provides a structured framework to assess ADHD symptoms, comorbidities, and functional impairments and is the NICE recommended assessment tool for the assessment of ADHD in children.

Rating Scales

We employ gold standard rating scales, such as the CONNERS-4 assessment tools, to obtain information from multiple sources, the child or young person being assessed, and any other relevant people in their lives that can support the information gathering, including teachers.

These tools assess various domains of ADHD symptoms and provide valuable insights for diagnosis and treatment planning.

Objective Tests

We also include the QB check in our assessments. The QB Check is a vital ADHD testing tool that provides objective, quantitative and qualitative data to help assess a person’s presentation in relation to symptoms of ADHD, and also increases the strength of the results and therefore the acceptance of the report by other services, such as the NHS.

The test is designed to evaluate attention, impulsivity, and motor activity levels by combining a computerised continuous performance task with motion-tracking technology to provide objective data on an individual’s performance.

Report and Feedback:

Once the information gathering is completed, this data is analysed and a full, detailed diagnostic report is produced and sent to you.

You will then have time to read this report and when you’re ready, we can book a 60-minute appointment to feedback the results and discuss any recommendations or questions you may have.

Benefits Of Diagnosis

Validation and Understanding

A diagnosis can help individuals and their families make sense of their difficulties, providing validation and understanding for their experiences.

Access to Support

With a diagnosis, individuals can access appropriate support services, accommodations, and therapies to manage their symptoms effectively.

Tailored Treatment

A diagnosis enables clinicians to develop personalized treatment plans that address specific ADHD-related challenges, leading to improved functioning and overall well-being.

Treatment Options

At Springdale Psychology, we offer a range of evidence-based treatment options for Child ADHD:

We provide individual therapy focused on developing coping strategies, improving executive functioning skills, and addressing emotional regulation difficulties associated with ADHD.
Our clinicians work with individuals and families to develop behavior management techniques and create structured environments to enhance self-control, organization, and productivity.
We offer coaching services to help individuals develop strategies for time management, planning, goal setting, and improving overall executive functioning.
There are also medication options for people with ADHD to help manage some of the challenges presented by the symptoms. If you wish to consider this, we can link you in with psychiatry colleagues to review your needs, who will work with you to find options that suit you.

ADHD classes & membership programme

In addition to our one-to-one support, we are developing a new ADHD education and skills programme, designed as an ongoing, community-based alternative to short-term post-diagnostic sessions.

They offer a space to:

  • Learn how ADHD actually works in the brain
  • Understand your strengths and patterns
  • Develop practical strategies that fit you
  • Experience a neuroaffirmative environment
  • Build confidence, insight, and self-compassion

The programme will follow a membership-style format, allowing you to attend rolling sessions each month, access resources, and continue building skills at a pace that suits you.

Frequently asked questions about ADHD testing

How long does ADHD testing take?

From your first appointment to receiving your final report and feedback session, we aim to complete the full assessment within 6–10 weeks, and sometimes even quicker, where possible and required. This includes time for interviews, rating scales and testing, analysis, report writing AND feedback. We have set up the service so that we don’t have a waiting list, so that you can access support when it’s needed. The assessment process doesn’t have to be this quick, and where necessary or helpful, we can work with you to provide the flexibility that you need.

Yes. We offer online ADHD testing for adults across the UK, following the same structured interviews, rating scales, and objective testing as in-person appointments. For children, online testing is sometimes appropriate, however, we may recommend at least part of the assessment in person or include school observation depending on the situation and the needs of the assessment.

Yes. Your test is conducted and the report written by an experienced HCPC-registered Clinical Psychologist and includes diagnostic conclusions, functional impact, and clear recommendations. Schools, universities, exam boards, and workplaces widely accept our reports when considering reasonable adjustments, DSA (Disabled Students Allowance), or workplace accommodations. We have not had a report declined yet!

QbCheck and the QB Test are objective ADHD tests that measures attention, impulsivity, and physical activity levels using a computer task and motion tracking via a webcam. While ADHD cannot be diagnosed by a single test alone, QbCheck strengthens the assessment by providing quantitative data that supports the clinical picture and increases acceptance of results and the report by external services (e.g., the NHS). We include it because it offers clarity, especially for individuals who feel their internal experience can be hard to explain and are often not seen by others, such as teachers, family or colleagues.

Yes. Many people come to us with uncertainty, self-doubt, or a feeling that they are “not struggling enough”, or that people around them believe that they are “doing to well to have ADHD” or to seek an assessment. ADHD can show up in subtle, inconsistent, or easily misunderstood ways, so questioning your own experience is extremely common.

Our role is to explore your experiences carefully, helping you to understand your mind with clarity rather than judgement. The goal isn’t to fit you into a diagnosis, it’s to help you make sense of your life, your strengths, and the patterns that may be affecting you.

If you’re unsure whether to proceed, you can:

  • Take our short online ADHD screening tool (link here when available), which can help you reflect on whether an assessment may be helpful; or
  • Contact us directly to talk through your thoughts and explore your options without any pressure.

Yes. During testing, we routinely consider patterns linked with:

  • Autism
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Executive function difficulties
  • Trauma
  • Learning differences
  • Sleep challenges

We do not diagnose all of these as part of ADHD testing, but we explore them compassionately so you receive a report that reflects your whole experience, not just the outcomes of a narrow checklist.

No. You can self-refer directly to us. We work entirely separately from the NHS, so you don’t need a GP appointment or referral to start the process.

Many people search for “ADHD Right to Choose”. Right to Choose (RTC) is an NHS pathway where your GP can refer you to certain NHS-funded providers for an ADHD assessment. These services are free at the point of use, but they can have long waiting times, limited provider choice, and less flexibility around appointments.

Springdale Psychology is a private clinic. Private ADHD testing is separate from the NHS. You can refer yourself directly, choose your clinician, and access shorter waiting times, more in-depth assessments, and tailored recommendations for school, work, and daily life. Private testing can also allow more time for you to ask questions, understand your results, and explore practical next steps. With our private ADHD testing service, you can self-refer directly to us without a GP referral and without using the NHS pathway.

We do not prescribe medication ourselves, but we can refer you to recommended independent psychiatry services who offer safe, evidence-based medication assessment and titration. You remain in control of whether medication is something you want to explore and we can discuss this with you as part of your assessment and feedback.

You will still receive a full report describing your experiences, the challenges you describe, and any patterns that emerged during testing. We also provide recommendations tailored to your profile, which may include emotional regulation support, executive-function strategies, learning adjustments, or therapy pathways.

Our goal is to ensure the process is valuable, validating, and informative, regardless of the outcome.
