Counsellor

Margaret Croft

MA, BSc, FDSc, BACP Registered Counsellor, Warrington

Margaret works as an integrative counsellor, drawing on a range of therapeutic approaches and tailoring her way of working to each client’s individual goals, pace, and preferences. She knows that no two people arrive at counselling in the same way, and no single approach fits everyone. What clients notice most about working with Margaret is the relationship itself: she believes that the quality of connection between client and counsellor, built on trust, safety, and being truly heard, matters more to successful therapy than any particular technique. Many of her clients describe real value in exploring the roots of their current difficulties more deeply, gaining insight that helps things finally make sense and supports lasting change.

Margaret brings a wealth of experience to her work as a counsellor, having spent the first part of her career in senior HR and personnel roles with major North West organisations, including North West Water, ICI Pharmaceuticals, the Co-operative Bank, and Norweb plc. Over two decades in these roles gave her extensive experience supporting people through change, conflict, and difficult transitions in the workplace: a background that gives her a genuine, practical understanding of workplace pressure, burnout, and the strain of holding things together while struggling underneath. Clients dealing with work related stress, anger, or the fallout of difficult professional relationships often find she simply gets it in a way that feels different.

Following this career, Margaret retrained in counselling, gaining a BSc in Psychology from the Open University and a Foundation Degree in Counselling from Staffordshire University. She began her therapeutic career volunteering as a listener for the Samaritans, before training on placement with Mind. Since 2020, she has worked as a counsellor at Castlefields Health Centre in Runcorn, part of the NHS, supporting clients through a wide range of difficulties, including anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship breakdown, and the lasting effects of abuse.

If you’ve been wondering whether now is the right time to talk to someone, or quietly carrying something on your own for too long, Margaret offers a space that is warm, non-judgemental, and entirely led by what you need.
